InTeRaCT is on fire! :)

The interact club went all together on a school bus to provide them with school material and other such as sport balls, pencils notebooks and many more. As a club that shows commitment to global issues and awareness it was important for us to prove we are helping the society we live in.

The school we went to, is a local school that does not have enough equipment in order to provide the best education for their kids. As we have reached their it was one of my duties and some other people to carry and hand in the equipment we have managed to purchase from selling roses on Valentines Day.

We decided to wear our school uniform to represent our unity as a school and a club and in order to to show our commitment for them as a school. IN addition on the same way we have also donated a medical center medical equipment for them to be used, since they were lacking in sterile tools that can be critical in preventing infections and diseases.

As a consequence of taking actions in this type of activities, we have been finally associated and publicly considered as Rotterians, in Uganda Thanks to our Leader Ms. B and our president Ingrid.

Never say you cant! Little light :)

Last Sunday i attended with my colleagues, Aviah and Eddy Little Light again. This time, we did not concentrate a lot on their studies and decided to put more effort in making them happy and play with them.

As we usually attend Little Light, we teach them core subjects mostly such as Math and English. Last sunday we danced with them played Legos and did a bit of learning as we made a Spelling Bee. I have managed to learn how to initiate creative activities excpet teaching only. I was glad to learn how to occupy those kids and manage to make them happy even for a short while.

It is not always easy to get them into learning however it was great seeing them take part in a spelling Bee which we have organized for them, something I have never done previously. Eddy and I, drummed for them and made music as they dance with Aviah and we did that in turns. Aviah Eddy and I decided that, in the future once in a while, playing with them could be very beneficail for their enthusiasm to listen to us and study more!

Prom :D FINALE

Last saturday prom finally tooki place in kabira after few long months of preparing for it. It started actually on saturday morning, where the whole class met in kabira to set up the place with decorations and other few things. It is been really tough to fund raise all the money from breakfast selling, ice cream selling, Talent Show and more but it was totally worth it. Unfortunately, we did consider and planned well all the decorations such as the tunnel that we were supposed to go through to enter the place, which turned out to be dangerous and not built one and therefore we decided not to set it up (also cause we didn't know how). It could save us alot of time and ill make sure next time ill have to organize such things they should be well thought about before.

In addition, The prom night was generally a great success for my class and my colleagues and I heard many good feed-backs from the DP2s whom the prom was organized for, and i personally had a lot of fun. I have managed to develop leading skills, responsibility and a great team collaboration while organizing this prom, by creating fundraisers working with my friends together and managing as a group the whole venue issues,in addition to be responsible and lead a great event as a fundraiser such as the talent show.

Overall, i feel like i can really be proud of my colleagues and my self and i do believe that this event could be ticked as a success :D

Prom - Talent ShoWWW!~!

I just got home from KISU after an amazing talent show I have lead and organized, i am really proud to say that my colleagues and I managed to raise 1.2m UGX which is more than we expected to fund raise the talent show !!
As the leader of the group I am so glad it went well and people had a lot of fun (although at first i had to go for two weeks to force and convince people to buy tickets each lunch and break!! but eventually I was really happy to hear a lot of positive feedback from everyone around that showed up) It started when I was creating the attendance list, talent show program and design the talent show poster (which we posted all around school) together with my colleague Rana.
It was very difficult for me to go around school and take everyone's playback music (and for some i also needed to download it my self) since everyone is a human being and naturally people forgot. At the last minute people gave me their music just as the talent show started.
Moreover, I also gave everyone a job to do and what exactly everyone should bring as a part of the food we had to sell.

To make sure everything would be ready for the talent show i came to school two hours early and organized the musical instruments and the sits for thwe audience and the judges . Just as we were about to start the talent show, we did not have the key to sound room and someone locked it for some reason, and i had to go to about 3-4 people until i found it.
There were many last changed that happened before the talent show  started and many problems rose up, and as the group leader i had to fix them. The stage we have organized did not suite the dancers since there were instruments, so i have decided to move all the dancers right after our intermission break so we have time to clean up the stage and set it back while another performer was doing stand up so it would be ready for the rest of the singers and music players. Therefore I had to go back to the IT lab and reprint the program for the judges so they know the order, for the amazing MCs, and for my self as the DJ/sound-man that music. It was very difficult to do many jobs together at the same time but I am glad i did eventually. We say in Hebrew what doesn't kill you, strengths you, and I am definitely feeling stronger and thinking i developed great responsibilities, try new areas such as being a sound man, organizing and being the leader of an amazing group of  such a big event. As the leader i was reposnible also to speak with our Head of Secondary and approve the event, get permission from several directors in KISU and speak to our music teacher and more in order to use the stage and the instruments.

Unfortunately, two of our judges came late and we had to replace them at the very very last minute' which was extremly frustrating however the replacememnts did a great job! It was the very first talent show we did IN KISU for kisu students and i was very keen to make it look professional, to raise the bar very high and prove people, why it was worth coming to the event after long exhausting begging.

Many unexpected thing can happen when such event takes place but i had to face a problem i did not think would happen. A very determined with great altitude girl was supposed to perform but she did not know the lyrics so i have offered her my phone to use and read it from there, but then i realized there was a much greater fear in her and i had to speak to her several time and encourage her to do the things she wants to do and prove everybody what she is capable of doing. Obviously i gave her the choice if to perform or not since it is not an easy thing to do, but i really wanted her to do so. Even though she did not win i am glad she stood up on stage and received the applause she deserved for participating.

In addition as much as it was difficult i also participated last in the show with my closet friend eddy and we performed a guitar piece we have came up with together. I have to admit we did not practice a lot at all and therefore it was a bit lacking but i had great time performing and it was really fun.

Overall, I am feeling very proud of my self that i lead my group to a success that could easily be a fail and i would never be able to do that without the help of other friends teachers and other great people. I feel much much more responsible now after i managed to create that event and i feel more confident about my capabilities. I definitely tried new things and developed new skills and i am really glad it turned out the way it did.

I really feel like thanking everyone in my class (and my CAS Teacher Mr.Moussay weho looked after us and encouraged us to do something new, cause at the end of the day i am glad we did not do a boring bake sale) who did a great job and especially Rana, Ingrid and Aviah that did alot alot too.

I am so happy and even sweaty from all the work and i feel as if it was totally worth it.

Thanks CAS!!! :D
 (P.s. cannot believe i said that ) :')

Here are some great pictures of the prepaerations and i will upload more pictures in the future !

Little LIght - Back on Track

After the long Holiday the Ugandan students had, they reuturned not so long ago together with the commitment to little Light! In the two previous saturdays I have met new students, since some of the students left and now I am teaching 5 new students.

This time i find it much more difficult due to the increase in students however I am glad that i can support new kids in their school work. For the past two weeks we have been working together on their math homework, and i have found it difficult to help since they do not have math books. I believe that if we could make a fundraiser to support them it would be much more easy for them to study and much more easy for me to teach.

However, currently I have to look at their previous work in class in their notebooks and make up new questions and finding a way to teach them. I was glad that most of the students caught the idea quickly however i believe that some of them could not understand exactly what I want cause their English was lacking or they just need more time which i will definitely give them next time we meet.

In addition, I also received a certificate of appreciation for supporting them which incredibly encouraged me to visit again knowing I am helping out other kids!

Piano Recital

Last week i have finally performed a piano piece after a long time of having lessons, of course i am not professional but i have definitely improved my piano skills during my piano course. Throughout the whole course i have found it terribly difficult of having to play both the right hand and left hand at the same time since it is a skill that is earned with practice, but eventually i managed to perform on the school recital. I am glad that i have managed to be committed to the course because it is known that starting is always easy but being able to maintain the same altitude towards something is always a difficult part.

Here is the piece I played on the School's recital:

Painting in Little Light

Today, we have done something a bit different from teaching, PAINTING. All the 'Little Light' participants have showed up for a great team work, and painted the gate of theirs in BLUE, but let's begin by step by step.  So firstly before any painting, some scratching had to be done. Many posters were stacked using super glue, and I, Personally found it really difficult to do so with it. Therefore I have learned some extremely useful skills when scratching, using water could make it a hell of a lot easier!! We have spent about 45 min trying to scratch most of the posters then we immediately got into the painting part. Although I haven’t contributed much to the painting part, since there were not enough brushes, I played some football with the kids n I had lots of fun. Eventually it was great to see the final result of an amazing collaborative team :D
